Top 10 questions on the development of the child's brain - Brain Health Series Part 1

Q: brain development depends only on genes?

A:. No, brain development begins is the result of a complex interaction between genes and environment, brain development in utero. Billions of neurons are generated. They migrate from their birthplaces to their final positions in the embryo. Axons and dendrites grow and connections (synapses) between nerve cells are formed. These mechanisms may be wired, which is determined by genetics.Once compounds are formed, the employees of business mechanisms come into play. If a connection is strengthened or eliminated are determined by the activity of this compound, which means that the experiences of the child / baby from.

An example of how the environment affects brain development: Rutter et al. (1998) studied Romanian orphans adopted and brought to England before the age of two (about 6 months ago). If to judge on their arrival, the children have been shown tohighly malnourished and developmentally impaired. If after a few years in the environment of the adoptive parents' (aged 4) tested, the children have shown great progress and physical development, particularly those adopted before 6 months.

Q: How can a child outwitting his / her genes?

A: Yes, this can be done, says Richard Nisbett, the author of "Intelligence and how to get it: Why do schools and cultures Count". In this interview, Nisbett explores the interaction between genes, the school andIntelligence: "If our genes largely determine our IQ, which in turn strengthens our ability in the course of our lives, then what is the role of the school"

In another interview, this child prodigy Joshua Waitzkin is exchild American chess player, author and martial arts competitor, as it depends on learning to know.

Q: Are children born with more or fewer neurons and synapses as adults?

A: Children are more neurons and synapses, and was born as adults. In aStudy in 2007, Abitz, Damgaard et al. 8 human infant brain compared to those of 8 adult brain and showed that the mean estimates of adult neurons were 41% lower than that of the newborn. What happens to these extra neurons and connections then? The synaptic response is cut (or pruning of neurons).

Synaptic pruning is a regulatory process that the total number of neurons is reduced by an excess production of "elimination" of the weaker synapses. A synapse is a weak synapsesThis is not used much, which shows that experience is an essential component of brain development.

Q: 'Under 5 years is the only critical period for brain development?

A: No, brain development is a continuum from birth to 20 years or so. A "critical period" in development is a time early in the life of an organism, while the body has a very high sensitivity to certain stimuli in the environment. If the stimuli in the environment areBody to develop in a certain way. If the stimuli, not during the critical period exists, it may be difficult or sometimes impossible, to develop some functions. For example, if a child does not see the light in the first months of life (at least 6 months), the nerve and the processing of visual input neurons degenerate and die.

The best known example of the critical period comes the critical period hypothesis (Lenneberg, 1967), which means that the first statesYears of life are the time, developed in language easily. After that, learning a difficult language and usually less successful.

This is the case, however, that "everything that has happened 5 years ago?" Want to be a critical period for 0-5 years, all cognitive skills important? No development is more of a trajectory, a continuum. Show brain imaging studies and other studies have shown that the brain is not fully developed until the age of 18-20 In particular, the frontal lobes of theThe brain's role in the decision, organization, planning and strategy development involved the latest wired to function as an adult.

Q: What is a game to bring a child?

A: Research has shown that play is crucial for the physical, mental and social-emotional for all ages. This is particularly true in the purest form of play: the unstructured, self-motivated, imaginative, independent kind, where children start their own games and even invent their ownown rules. In other words, it plays a powerful method of cognitive and emotional development for children and adults.

Q: Can a child with ADHD trained to control the attention?

A: Yes, in particular the training of working memory has an indirect effect on attention. Many studies have shown that such training can be beneficial for children with attention problems. More generally, as Michael Posner, a prominent scientist in the field of cognitive neuroscience, saysThe focus is to control complex, but can be trained.

Q: Can a child control his / her feelings?

A: Parents and teachers tell children countless times "calm" or "respect". But the natural course of development of a child means that the circuits of the brain to calm and focus a work in progress. Tips for Developing a More Positive Mindset

There is an old saying..."a mind is a terrible thing to waste." And with that being said, even a negative mindset is just as bad. Many people think in this day and age that it is impossible to have a positive mindset. The way we think about ourselves and even challenges in life that we face determine the outcome, or how long we choose to remain in them. The bad news is...a negative mindset can destroy your life. The good news is...there are tips for developing a more positive mindset.

A positive mindset is like having fresh air to breathe. It produces good health in your body. Having a positive mindset is not just for a day, but for a lifetime. There are many things you can do to stay away from being negative and living with a mindset that creates even an environment that is destructive. Reading books that are positive, optimistic and even humorous is one way to have more of a positive mindset. It is something about the things we set our eyes on all day and consume it like food in the belly. What you read throughout the day becomes how you will think throughout the day. When reading books that are not negative, or filling you with fear it will begin to manifest in your thought life. A Proverb says, "As a man THINKS in his heart, so is he." So, reading material that continues to be of a positive benefit over a period of time can change your thought process and you will be thinking and speaking what you read! And you are probably saying "But, I don't like to read?" Well, that brings us to the next tip that you can do to help you think more positive....Your "environment."

We can surround ourselves with positive people, pictures and images of waterfalls, the ocean, smiley faces and uplifting sticky notes and daily emails. Our environment is very important. In our households, jobs, and people we choose to be around daily play a part in how we think. If our surroundings are negative, full of misery, anger, fear and worry you will think exactly like your environment. A good way to look at it is that a person's environment must match his character. If your character is positive and the friends you are talking with daily speak opposite of that you are pretty much setting yourself up for negative thoughts. Sooner or later you become like who you partner with daily. Even television and entertainment whether positive or negative are forms of images that will either produce negative fear, or positive thoughts in our lives. If you can't watch the news without the negative subject matter causing you to be fearful or think negative thoughts, then it is time to start putting limits on that type content. You control your environment and who you allow in your circle, what you choose to watch and the entertainment you indulge in.

Developing a positive mindset is not an overnight success, but in due season you will see the fruits of change when you keep at it. Everything in life is a learning process and change is never easy. But, when we change the way we think it will create a positive mindset, healthy body, less stress and the environment around us will be for us and not against us.

Lucid Dreaming - How To What?

When I first heard the term "Lucid Dreamer or Lucid Dreaming" I actually thought it was someone who talked in their sleep. Well hey, lucid does mean articulate, well spoken and eloquent etc!

How far was I off the mark?

Well at least I got the dreaming part right.

The reason I became involved in this discussion was a close friend who was into yoga, mantra and meditation etc and she had mentioned it and asked me if I knew what it was, you saw my answer above.

Once she began to explain the benefits of a "Lucid Dreamer" or "Lucid Dreaming" I became very interested because I do dream nearly every night without fail.

I began to research comments by Lucid Dreamer experts to improve my understanding.

A question, before beginning to read this article did you know what a Lucid Dreamer was or anything about lucid dreaming? Most probably not, if you do then your one of the lucky ones, well done, for those of you who knew nothing about dreaming experiences, lets see if we can introduce you to some information.

It appears the term "Lucid Dream" was first coined around the late 1800's by a certain Dutch psychiatrist and writer Frederik (Willem) van Eeden (1860-1932).

It appears that a lucid dreamer may actually be able to take an active part and manipulate their dreaming experience within the dream making their lucid dreams appear as a reality and vivid.

Of course I am sure there are many interpretations, but so far from what I have read the above seems to be the basic analysis.

You are probably thinking "What's this really all about". My take on it is this!

I have a few close lucid dreamer friends and one thing they all utilise is lucid dreaming affirmations, they say they are conscious and aware of what is happening and they are in control. Wow! Yes I know it sounds astounding but they swear by it.

I will present some of my own personal experiences in a future article.

For now I would like to introduce you to some fantastic free information on Lucid Dreamer including free Lucid Dreamer videos and how to have a lucid dream every night it will give you an insight into what Lucid Dreams are all about.

So go there now and enjoy and watch the latest videos on Lucid Dreamer for free.

Sweet Dreams.

Improve Memory With Puzzles

At one time, doctors and scientists agreed that we are given all the brain cells we will ever have at birth. Thankfully, scientific studies have shown that we can produce new brain cells all throughout our lives.

While it is true that some of the connections between our brain cells can get weaker or even shut down completely, it has been proven that weak connections can become stronger and new connections can be created. To help increase brain power, a set of brain puzzles is a very useful tool.

Brain puzzles help the memory by forcing you to use parts of the brain you do not use as frequently. You may have noticed that when you were at school, it was easy to remember the math facts and spelling words. Several years or decades after learning them though, a bit more thought has to go into remembering these things. In school, we had to keep these bits of information at the ready in our brain almost all of the time. But after graduation, we started to rely on dictionaries, thesauruses and calculators to do the hard work for us and slowly our brain began to atrophy.

The brain may not be a true muscle but it should be exercised like one. It is one thing for a person not to be physically strong. When you are mentally not strong, however, your quality of life is naturally much lower than it could, or should be. Once dementia sets in and begins to take hold of your life, there is not much you can do. Nevertheless, scientific study has proven that to begin with, brain puzzles are a good line of defense against dementia setting in.

While it is true that a good healthy diet, exercise and some supplements will help the brain to some degree, none have been proven as effective as brain puzzles. As people get older, they do get better at eating vegetables and most aging people get some exercise, like taking walks around the block or golfing with their friends. Yet the most effective thing you can do for yourself is to tackle a brain puzzle.
